WASHINGTON, DC (April 22 2021) – President Biden on Thursday is expected to announce a commitment to cut US greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 52 percent compared to 2005 levels by 2030. The announcement comes after nearly 400 E2 members and supporters signed this letter urging the president to cut emissions by at least 50 percent by 2030.

Statement from Bob Keefe, executive director of E2:

“This is the kind of leadership America and the world needs. By pledging to cut our emissions in half, President Biden is also sending a clear market signal to business, one that will result in the new clean economy investments and jobs we need to reach that goal.

“Climate action and clean energy will drive global economic growth for decades to come. By ensuring America is leading the world on combatting climate change, President Biden also is ensuring America’s economy will lead the world as well.”

According to E2’s just-released 2021 Clean Jobs America report, there are 3 million clean energy jobs across every state and metropolitan area in the U.S. Despite the overall drop in jobs, clean energy has been recovering jobs faster than the overall U.S. economy since unemployment peaked last May – surging 11 percent to add 300,000 jobs between June and December.
