E2: AB 2313 gives Californians the option to install non-polluting appliances with the help of funds that have been used to replace the old gas line to their home
SACRAMENTO, CA —Today, Governor Newsom signed the Home Energy Choice Act (AB 2313), a bill that will support Californians in determining what energy powers their home appliances. When gas service lines (the pipe connecting a home to the gas main line) is due for replacement, utilities will offer a voluntary incentive to electrify instead. Authored by Assemblymember Marc Berman, this voluntary program will support both owner-occupied properties and rental properties in transitioning to cleaner appliances.
Following is a statement from Susan Nedell, Senior Western States Advocate for the national, nonpartisan business group E2 (Economy + Environment):
“Every dollar invested in fossil fuel infrastructure is a dollar that could support cleaner, more resilient, and more affordable energy solutions. The Home Energy Choice Act stops ratepayers from sinking $20,000-plus per home into gas lines and instead puts that money to work for local electricians, heat pump installers, and contractors. It’s smarter spending for Californians and a jobs engine for the clean energy economy.” ”
