• 362 major projects that will invest $132 billion, hire 116,000 workers have been announced just over two years
  • 62% of projects, 71% of jobs, 83% of investments are in GOP districts

WASHINGTON – Companies in December announced nearly $300 million in investments to build three large-scale clean energy projects that are expected to create at least 500 permanent new jobs, according to E2’s monthly tally of clean energy projects announced by the private-sector. December’s announcements bring the total number of new major projects announced by industries to 362 in just over two years since industry tax breaks were passed into law in August 2022.

North Carolina claimed the largest announcement in December, a $193 million investment to build a production facility for high-temperature superconducting wire used in clean energy transmission lines that will employ more than 300 workers, bringing the total clean energy investments announced in the state by private businesses to $21.3 billion since August 2022. A $105 million investment announced in Michigan to build a new manufacturing plant for electric vehicle parts brings the total number of large-scale clean energy projects announced in the state to 34 — the most in the U.S.

Following is a statement from MICHAEL TIMBERLAKE, E2 COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR:

“Clean energy investments continue to reshape America’s industrial economy. The progress made in recent years shows we’re in the midst of an economic revolution not seen in generations – one that is bringing jobs and capital back to places left behind by previous economic transitions, from the shores of the Great Lakes to the rural South.

Through December, more nearly 62 percent of all projects announced—along with 71 percent of all jobs and 83 percent of all investments announced in connection with projects—are in congressional districts represented by Republicans in the 119th Congress. In all, at least 362 major clean energy projects have been announced in 41 states and Puerto Rico since August 2022 according to E2’s analysis. Companies have said they plan to invest more than $132 billion in these projects and hire 116,000 permanent workers. These figures reflect ongoing revisions and updates.
