Statement from E2 Executive Director Bob Keefe
WASHINGTON (December 4, 2017) – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency held a public hearing on its proposal to rollback an industry backed aimed to close a massive pollution loophole for commercial trucks and buses. This proposal would rollback emissions standards on so-called “glider” trucks that use old and outdated engines that produce 40 times more pollution than modern-day engines–unfairly disadvantaging freight truck companies complying with current standards.
“Repealing these standards is a misguided effort by the Trump administration to benefit a handful of favored companies at the expense of major manufactures and fleet managers across the country. The trucking industry is well on its way to meeting its emissions targets but this reckless move to rollback this standard will add confusion and distrust to a regulation widely embraced by industry.”
