Focus on solar leads E2 in first half of 2018, headlined by successful fight over the implementation of vital “Solar Border Bill”
A quick scare that the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) could nullify the recently passed “Solar Border Bill” (Act 40) by continuing to allow out of state projects to depress the state’s solar market by earning in-state credits highlighted our policy efforts this Spring. But successful advocacy by E2, including initiating sign-on letters from more than 1,330 solar businesses, solar homeowners, and businesses that own solar systems, helped ensure that the legislation was correctly implemented.
Other strong statewide policy outreach in recent months included:
- Co-hosting the 4th annual statewide solar summit of solar professionals from 50 companies paired with an advocacy day in Harrisburg.
- Speaking engagements at the Women in Energy’s Earth Day, Westmoreland Sustainable Energy Forum, Penn State Energy Days, 911 Airlift Wing’s Earth Day, and a panel discussion on “Preparing for Pennsylvania’s Energy Future” for the Center for Strategic & International Studies.
- Organizing and convening the Clean Jobs Collective of Western Pennsylvania, comprised of a coalition of 15 organizations spearheading an economic development research report on the clean jobs economic development potential of the region. The Collective also included a stakeholder summit of regional leaders from businesses, nonprofits, labor, workforce development organizations, and government to encourage the growth of the clean energy sector in western Pennsylvania.
- Participating in a clean energy working group that is currently developing a community solar bill for Pennsylvania.
