PFAS Standards  are good for state’s environment and economy, Michigan business leaders say

LANSING (July 23, 2020) – With the completion of its yearlong rulemaking process, Michigan is now regulating seven PFAS chemicals, making Michigan a national leader of states protecting public drinking water from “toxic forever” chemicals called per- and polyfluoroalkyl  substances – or PFAS. The measures will help deliver the promise of safe, reliable, and affordable drinking water that businesses need to locate and thrive in our state.

The following is a statement from Micaela Preskill, E2 Midwest Advocate:

“Michigan’s environment and economy will both benefit from this new regulation. Michigan’s commitment to reducing PFAS contamination will protect our water-dependent industries and ensure all families and businesses have access to safe drinking water.”

The following is a statement from Greg Mangan of the Southwest Detroit Business Association, an organization supporting local Detroit businesses:

“Our business community depends on access to clean water – especially during a pandemic. Thanks to the rule taking effect today, Michigan is now a national leader in protecting the public health of its residents and businesses at a critical juncture. This sends a strong message to businesses in Southwest Detroit that we will be able to rely on clean water to do business and thrive.”

The following is a statement from Kris Spaulding, Co-owner of Grand Rapids-based Brewery Vivant:

“Good beer needs clean water. We are pleased to see Michigan’s stated commitment towards reducing our environmental impact and protecting businesses like mine that depend on access to clean drinking water  finally come to fruition. Ensuring the safety of our water resources is critical to attracting investments, growing new business opportunities, and maintaining our economy.”
