WASHINGTON – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a slate of new tailpipe emission standards for cars and trucks today that could slash carbon air pollution and boost EV clean vehicle adoption in the U.S.

If the strongest EPA standards are adopted, they will build on the more than $50 billion in private sector clean-vehicle-related manufacturing investments that have been announced since the passage of clean vehicle incentives in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act.

The following is a statement from Sandra Purohit, director of federal advocacy for E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs):

“The EPA proposed standards target the single largest US source of carbon pollution — transportation. Doing so directly improves US air quality and American health outcomes while lowering consumer costs, boosting the clean vehicle adoption, and creating thousands more jobs across every part of the U.S.

“By tackling carbon pollution, these standards will help curb the ballooning costs of climate change through clear healthcare savings and combating the worst impacts from weather disasters. The EPA should adopt the strongest achievable standards.”
