WASHINGTON – Companies in September announced more than $1 billion in investments to build seven new large-scale clean energy projects that are expected to create at least 910 permanent new jobs across five states, according to E2’s monthly tally of private-sector projects made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The September announcements bring the total number of new major projects announced by businesses across the renewable energy, battery storage, transmission and grid, electric vehicle and other clean energy industries to 348 since the IRA was signed into law in August 2022.

Michigan increased its lead over the rest of the U.S. for the most total projects since the IRA, accounting for three of the seven new projects, while Georgia became the second state to reach 30 major projects.

Following is a statement from MICHAEL TIMBERLAKE, E2 COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR:

“Home to one in five new large-scale clean energy projects announced the last two years, businesses and workers in Michigan and Georgia are reaping the economic benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act like no other state.”

Among the projects announced were major investments in Michigan by automaker Stellantis, which plans to build the first battery electric RAM 1500 light duty truck in Sterling Heights. In Indiana, IRH Manufacturing announced a $500 million solar cell manufacturing facility, and in Georgia, Shinsung Petrochemical announced a new factory to supply Hyundai’s massive electric vehicle plant, becoming the 18th supplier to open new operations near the plant.

In all, at least 348 major clean energy projects have been announced in 40 states and Puerto Rico since the IRA became law, according to E2’s analysis. Companies have said they plan to invest more than $129 billion in these projects and hire more 112,500 workers. These figures reflect ongoing revisions to previous months’ announcement totals.
