Richard began his career studying Mechanical Engineering (BSE, 1985) at Princeton University. After moving to California, he became intrigued with the possibilities of the Internet and joined an early Internet technology startup (NetGravity) in 1996. Leadership stints at DoubleClick and Yahoo saw Richard build multiple large Internet Media businesses and propelled him to found Rocket Fuel in 2008, an early pioneer in using AI to make advertising more effective. Following multiple years as one of the fastest growing companies in America, he took Rocket Fuel public in 2013 in one of the most successful IPOs of that year. Rocket Fuel was sold in 2017. Richard is a technologist, business leader, and creator of thousands of jobs in technology. In the last few years Richard has focused on helping promising young companies grow and solve real world problems, primarily in environmental and political technology. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and dog.
