Redefining Rural America’s Resource-Extractive Past

Project Description

The project will have a national focus with specific case studies within rural America. I will seek to amplify the voices of historically resource-dependent communities across rural America by telling the stories of the people and places that are rebuilding their economy through triple-bottom-line efforts at the intersection of people, planet, and profit. Applying a case-study approach grounded in social science methodology, the project will document how communities are redefining resource-dependence.

Project Goals

The human-centered perspective of the narratives and stories will provide rich insight into the successes and challenges that rural America is facing and what this means for the rest of the nation.
