THE CLEAN CAR STANDARDS ENSURE FUEL EFFICIENCY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE FOR CARS, PICKUP TRUCKS AND SUV’S.  THESE STANDARDS SAVE DRIVERS MONEY EVERY TRIP TO THE GAS STATION, ENCOURAGE INNOVATION IN MANUFACTURING WHILE INCREASING AMERICAN ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS AND REDUCING AIR POLLUTION.

These standards have helped to rebuild the U.S. auto industry. Now, fuel efficient and electric vehicles and parts are built at 1,200 U.S. factories in 48 states, employing 288,000 American workers overall. The top five states for manufacturing these vehicles and parts are Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Not only workers benefit from these standards. Consumers have already saved more than $50 billion at the pump since 2009.

Time has shown that smart vehicle efficiency standards are not a burden for the auto industry. Since the Great Recession, the auto industry has added over 700,000 retail and manufacturing jobs, while simultaneously meeting steady improvements in pollution and fuel economy standards.

The Trump administration and Congress have proposed rolling back these standards. Doing so will hurt American workers who build these vehicles and parts. It will cost consumers money at the pump. It will hurt the competitiveness of the American auto industry. It will hurt our air quality and our environment.
