Statement from E2 Rocky Mountains Advocate Susan Nedell

WASHINGTON (November 16, 2018) – Today, Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) voted unanimously to adopt the Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) Program standards for cars and trucks which are among the largest contributors to carbon pollution in Colorado. The new standards will reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from cars, encourage new business investment and innovation, and save Colorado families money at the pump.

In 2012, the federal government adopted a national standard consistent with the LEV Program, with the support of car manufacturers and federal regulators. The Trump Administration, however, is working to roll back those standards.

Ahead of today’s vote, more than 7,600 Coloradans called on the AQCC to adopt state emission standards for gas-powered vehicles. Colorado now joins thirteen states and the District of Columbia in adopting the LEV standards.

The following is a statement from E2 Rocky Mountains Advocate Susan Nedell on today’s vote:

“The clean energy economy needs state leadership in the face of the Trump administration’s continuing attacks to emissions standards across America. Today’s vote to implement low emission vehicle standards tells the rest of country Colorado is taking on that leadership.

“Not only will these new standards save businesses and families money at the pump, they will also boost jobs and investment in Colorado’s 57,000-strong clean energy workforce.”
