Before Clean Jobs Midwest 2018 launches, E2 Midwest mapped the region’s clean economy growth in rural and urban areas.

Starting in late March, E2 Midwest released clean energy maps in four Midwest states: Michigan, Missouri, Illinois and Ohio. The maps illustrate in detail the states’ clean energy economies, providing a useful tool to help policymakers, media, and consumers better grasp the scope of their state’s clean energy economy – and how much room it has to grow.

We also released Clean Jobs Rural America, showing how rural economies in the Midwest with otherwise flat or negative growth saw a huge uptick in jobs from wind, solar and energy efficiency – achieving nearly 6% yearly growth in clean energy jobs.

Other policy fronts E2 Midwest engaged on in the first half of 2018:

  • In Ohio, we ran online ads throughout the Columbus area to build a buzz about clean energy jobs at an important time when the Ohio legislature was considering rolling back the prohibitive wind laws in the state. Our ads were seen by more than 2 million people and helped send a message that Clean Jobs Count.
  • In Iowa, we sent an action alert to Illinois State Senate members and organized a meeting in Des Moines with Iowa Governor Gov. chief of staff to oppose legislation that would roll-back energy efficiency programs in the state.
  • In Michigan, we elevated business voices to oppose the approval of a new, unnecessary billion-dollar natural gas plant build. We blogged, ran online ads that reached over 1 million Michiganders and reached out to Mayors in Michigan to speak out on the issue.
  • Representatives from the Midwest went to DC in February to advocate for Clean Cars and in May to advocate for a host of issues.
