Debates over clean car standards are bringing business voices from all over Colorado, to help advance strong fuel economy standards in the West

E2 Rocky Mountains was busy the first half of 2018, bringing the business voice from all over Colorado to advocate for transportation electrification, fuel economy standards, energy efficiency, climate action, and more.

  • The chapter hosted, co-hosted, or participated in nine events from January through June. A big highlight was in January, an evening with Denver Mayor Hancock and his staff to discuss the city’s 2020 sustainability goals.
  • As the first in a 5-part climate series, in May we brought transportation leaders together to discuss, “Cleaner and Healthier Transportation: Electrification in Colorado.”
  • In June, we co-hosted an evening with Gov. Hickenlooper and his senior staff to better understand the Colorado Climate Plan.
  • We finished the quarter with the second panel in our climate series, “Shrinking the Landfill: Increase Waste Diversion and Food Waste Reduction.”

Rocky Mountains members also advocated for a number of other state and federal issues:

  • The chapter didn’t let the Trump Administration’s efforts to rollback federal fuel economy standards stand in the way of progress in 2018. We successfully advocated for Colorado to adopt stricter fuel emissions standards — and helped convince Governor John Hickenlooper to issue an executive order in June committing Colorado to join 13 other states in adopting the Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) Standard.
  • E2 friends in Grand Junction provided remote testimony for the bi-partisan “Alternative Fuel Vehicles Public Utilities” bill SB18-216.
  • At the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), advocated for the commissioners to set higher goals for Xcel’s Demand-side Management program.
  • Sent a national alert letter to support the federal methane waste rule on public lands.
  • Succeeded in having five op-eds published around the state in support of the chapter’s advocacy work.
