E2 New York went on the offensive for clean transportation in 2018, dipping our toes into the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) through which 11 states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic have committed to reduce emissions from the transportation sector while modernizing the region’s transit system. TCI will help create tens of thousands of new clean energy jobs in the process.

Other policy fronts E2 NY engaged in in recent months:

  • We played defense on wind power, attempting to fend off threats via a State Assembly Bill that would restrict state funding for the construction or operation of any wind project in designated areas around Fort Drum in NY’s North Country. We composed a letter in opposition to that bill featuring signatures from 12 E2 members and former military professionals.
    • Additionally, E2 Mid-Atlantic member Jon Powers, an Army vet and a native of Buffalo, NY, published an op-ed in the Buffalo News voicing his opposition to the bill.
  • In April, E2 NY members Ethan Garber and Yale Klat (IdleAir) and E2 NY chapter director Ron Kamen (EarthKind) participated in the first of many TCI listening sessions. These sessions have been hosted by East Coast governors to encourage lawmakers to listen to the business community and prioritize policies to create clean, equitable, and efficient transportation systems.
  • In May, E2 NY held a successful chapter event on the threats and opportunities New York faces in the coming electric vehicle revolution. The event featured Assistant Secretary for Environment Rajiv Shah (Governor Cuomo’s Office), Zach Kahn (BYD Heavy Industries), and Emily Wier (Greenlots).
