WASHINGTON – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new standards curbing tailpipe pollution from trucks in the coming years, the first time these standards have been updated in more than two decades. The rule, however, is not strong enough to adequately address the climate need and will allow truck makers to continue producing high polluting vehicles.

The following is a statement from Sandra Purohit, Director of Federal Advocacy for the national nonpartisan business group E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs).

“The EPA’s action today is a long-overdue step in curbing harmful emissions from trucks. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go nearly far enough to accelerate the truck industry’s transition to cleaner vehicles.”

“The EPA now must now expedite its next round of standards and speed the shift to zero-emission trucks. ”
