WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court today reduced the ability of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to limit carbon pollution from the nation’s power plants.

The following is a statement from Sandra Purohit (JD, MPM), federal advocacy director for the national nonpartisan business group E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs):

“This is a loss for our planet and all of us who live on it, and it is also a major blow to our climate-impacted economy.

“Make no mistake about it: Our clean energy transition will continue, because the economic case for clean energy is too strong to overturn.

“This ruling will hurt our ability to reach our climate goals efficiently and our ability to keep up with China and Europe in the clean energy race.  But it does not change what needs to be done.

“Today’s decision just underscores the urgency for the President and Congress to take action on climate and to pass the federal investments in clean energy.”
