Healthy Soils and the Climate Connection

Overview

Reducing current and future global warming emissions is not enough to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.  We must also aggressively remove carbon dioxide that’s already in the atmosphere.

While advanced carbon removal technologies are still on the drawing board, E2’s new report, Healthy Soils and the Climate Connection, shows that agriculture presents an immediate, affordable and actionable opportunity for carbon removal.  The shift to regenerative farming practices that can sequester carbon offers financial benefits to farmers, businesses and consumers, while delivering on strategic environmental goals – including fighting climate change.

With sponsorship by Senator Ron Wyden, E2’s advocacy work led to the inclusion of a soil carbon sequestration provision in the 2018 Farm Bill.  He will soon introduce a bill to expand and increase funding for carbon sequestration and other programs that amplify regenerative agriculture.
