WASHINGTON – The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis called on the need for investments in the clean energy economy, making it a focal point of the Committee’s Climate Crisis Action Plan released today. If enacted, the Plan would achieve net zero carbon emissions in the U.S. by 2050.

Addressing climate change by unlocking America’s clean energy engine, as this report recommends, would provide the dual benefits of jumpstarting the U.S. economy post COVID-19 and reducing the economic threats of current and future climate-related disasters.

Following is a statement from Sandra Purohit, E2 Federal Advocacy Director

“This report is a bold blueprint for transitioning America to a clean energy economy, saving and growing American jobs, advancing equity and enhancing US energy independence and global competitiveness.”

It stands in sharp contrast to the administration’s inaction which puts communities, businesses, farmers, the health of our planet and our national economy at risk. We cannot ignore the astronomical cost of inaction on climate just as we cannot ignore the millions of Americans losing their jobs every week, including 620,000 clean energy workers since March.

“The time is now for lawmakers to act and harness the U.S. innovation and ingenuity in clean energy to jumpstart our economy  and tackle the threats from climate change we are already experiencing.”
