E2@15 New York: Google’s Chief Sustainability Officer and a New Campaign for Clean Energy

More than 70 E2 members and local business leaders enjoyed a presentation from Google’s Lead for Sustainability Kate Brandt (pictured far right). Kate served in multiple energy leadership roles in Washington, DC, including as Special Advisor for Energy to the Secretary of the Navy, and most recently as the White House’s Chief Sustainability Officer, where she guided the federal government's climate change and clean energy initiatives.

Kate – a proud E2 member! – shared how Google, one of the world’s most innovative and influential companies, is taking action on sustainability and climate change. Kate also stressed the importance of private and public sector collaboration in this arena, and the important role E2 plays in bringing economic arguments to policy debates.

E2 New York Chapter Director Ron Kamen also briefed the audience about a new campaign E2 is a part of called Clean Power NY – a  statewide effort to make New York #1 in moving to a majority of renewables for all energy – electricity buildings and transportation. The campaign is both top down statewide & local grassroots up, with traditional and non-traditional allies.  The first phase of the campaign is to educate, engage and mobilize different industries, associations, businesses and constituents.

As part of the campaign, E2 plans to release early next year a comprehensive statewide clean energy jobs census. The report will be similar to other E2 clean energy jobs reports in other states, such as www.cleanjobsohio.orgwww.cleanjobsmissouri.org;www.cleanjobsflorida.org.

If you have any questions about the campaign or want to get involved, please contact Ron Kamen, E2 Chapter Director, at [email protected].

Ying Li is E2's Senior Development Coordinator, based in New York.
