Current Status:
The Fish & Game Commission has approved the preferred alternative plans for the south, central and north central coasts. It is currently in the public comment process for north coast proposals, and opened its process for the San Francisco Bay region in late 2010. Milestones:
Jun 29, 2011 - The California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) selected Oct. 1, 2011 as the effective date for implementation of the marine protected areas (MPAs) in Southern California. Nov 10, 2009 - The Blue Ribbon Task Force unanimously selects a three-part plan and preferred alternative for a South Coast MPA. Aug 5, 2009 - The Fish & Game Commission approves the IPA for north central coast implementation by a vote of 3-2. May 14, 2009 - The Fish & Game Commission holds a public hearing about the Integrated Preferred Alternative for north central coast implementation. Apr 23, 2008 - The Blue Ribbon Task Force selects a plan for a North Central Coast MPA. Apr 2007 - CA Fish & Game Commission adopts MPA plan for the Central Coast region. Oct 24, 2002 - CA Fish & Game Commission votes to establish a marine protected area around the Channel Islands. E2 Actions:
